Hi! My name is Emily Root, and I’m the owner of Golden Roots Flower Farm

Ever since I have lived on my own, I’ve had a garden. I’m not quite sure why, since I was born and raised in a suburb of the twin cities. It wasn’t until I moved out to the country with my husband that I found the life I always dreamed of.

In the past I’ve always had vegetable gardens. I was young and didn’t understand what made flowers so special. I liked the fact that I could grow food to put on our table. Every spring when I would go to local nurseries, I would pick out a few different flowers, but it was never enough to do anything with and they usually ended up succumbing to neglect. Except one flower I would plant every year without fail…sunflowers! I love sunflowers, and I’ve grown all sorts of different colors and sizes. They never disappoint.

The years went by, and four kids later, we moved from our home in the country to a house in a small town with 1.5 acres.

About two years ago, I picked up a book from Floret called, “The Cut Flower Garden” and it changed my view on everything! That spring, I started growing beginner flowers from seed like zinnias and cosmos. I remember telling my husband that fall that I was definitely expanding next spring to grow more flowers. Fast forward a couple of years and here I am, living out my dream of selling cut flowers with my family by my side. I am working on growing flowers that I’ve never grown before as well as starting a small business. I can’t wait to see what the future holds for us and our community!
